Who are we?

There are over 30M small businesses in the United States, but only a tiny fraction of them have a workplace savings program in place. As the savings gap in the country widens, it’s imperative that every worker has access to and participates in their company’s savings program, such as a 401(k) or 403(b). We believe that American workers should have easy access to an inexpensive, flexible, and intuitive solution to save for a brighter future. 

Unfortunately, prior to Vestwell, small businesses have been neglected and underserved, with expensive, inflexible, poorly designed offerings built on old, mainframe software. Vestwell is changing that, starting with rebuilding the core infrastructure for the modern era.  

Vestwell’s north star is to be the engine behind a $30T industry, powering all payroll-deducted workplace savings programs for small-to-midsize businesses, such as 401(k), 403(b), IRA, emergency savings accounts (ESA), health savings accounts (HSA) , 529 college savings, and alike.  

Vestwell’s focus is to build the most flexible, powerful workplace savings and investment platform, delivered through the hands and minds of their financial services partners with the help of payroll provider partners. Who are we looking for?

As Vestwell’s Lead Product Designer, you will collaborate closely with our Head of Product & Design. You will participate in the process of defining our future product vision and lead a small team of UX designers to ensure that vision is realized. You are both a leader and a worker. You like to mentor others while keeping your hands dirty practicing the disciplines you most excel at. This role demands someone who cares about every pixel, is a highly competent visual designer and can thrive in detail-oriented tasks.  

You have experience across the many facets of the product/UX design process, including root cause investigation, research synthesis, brainstorming, wire-framing, prototyping, usability testing, and the fundamentals of visual design. And maybe most importantly, you care deeply about helping people save for their futures and believe what we’re doing matters.   

Requirements

The Necessities

  • Working with other designers, PMs, engineers, and business stakeholders
  • Managing or mentoring another designer or team
  • Presenting your research and design to project stakeholders
  • Communicating professionally (both written and verbal) with users
  • Designing responsive web apps from desktop to mobile viewports
  • Researching with interviews, surveys, and data analysis from event tracking
  • Wire-framing, prototyping, and usability testing your prototypes
  • Creating storyboards, site maps, and other design artifacts
  • Prior experience using Figma

The Extras

  • Degree in HCI, interaction design, or related field
  • Experience in a small company with a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS, Jira and Confluence

We take a modern Agile approach to web development, trusting cross-functional squads to make bottom up decisions in terms of roadmap prioritization, technical choices, and day-to-day processes.

We want squads working as a team to define their roadmap and prioritization, that follows best practices in development, automation testing, deploying, and support.
